Nerikomi is a traditional Japanese ceramic technique that involves layering and compressing different colored clays to create intricate patterns throughout the material. Unlike surface decoration, these patterns are embedded within the clay body, making each piece unique.
For this table lamp, we have used the throwing technique on the potter’s wheel with two distinct clay bodies—terracotta and stoneware clay—to create a contrast in color and texture. The layered composition shows the natural qualities of the materials through form and process.
