Asteroid - Clay Floor Lamp

The piece that began the totem series. Eighty hours of building, in a chalk finish.

The Asteroid form, hand painted. The building is unchanged — roughly eighty hours of throwing, drying, firing and assembly over a mild steel armature — with the painting added to the finished surface afterwards.

That second stage changes the object. Where the original Asteroid holds its interest in silhouette and clay surface, this version carries a drawn line across the form, so the piece resolves differently from each side and never settles into a single view.

64 inches tall, 18 inches across, in stoneware clay over a mild steel base and pipe.

One of one. The painting is not repeated, and the piece is not reissued.
